CARY, N.C. — The LSU women’s tennis team will kick off its 2016-17 schedule at the James Bonk Invite Sept. 16-18 at Cary Tennis Park.
Competition begins at 8:00 a.m. CT each day and the invitational features players from Duke, Florida, Furman, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, TCU, Virginia and VCU.
Junior Ryann Foster and senior Abby Owens will pair up to take on Florida’s No. 37-ranked duo of Spencer Liang and Anna Danilina while freshman Becca Weissmann and senior Skylar Holloway will face the No. 39 pairing of Ellyse Hamlin and Meible Chi of Duke.
In singles competition, No. 107 Owens will face No. 40 Chalena Scholl of Duke, Holloway will face North Carolina’s Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Foster will face North Carolina’s Jessie Aney.
Weissmann will play in her first singles match as an LSU Lady Tiger against Duke’s Rebecca Smaller.
Foster had a 20-18 overall doubles record, playing in 11 of those matches with Owens as her partner. Weissmann and Holloway will be playing in a doubles match together for the first time this weekend.
In singles competition, Foster went 25-14 last season, while Holloway went 8-7 overall and Owens went 32-8 overall, becoming the 16th player in school history to reach 30 wins in a single season.
