Harris Posts Key Strikeout in American League Win

BATON ROUGE, La. – Houston Astros reliever Will Harris, a former LSU pitcher, helped lead the American League Tuesday night to a 4-2 win over the National League in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Petco Park in San Diego.

With the American League holding a 4-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning, the National League loaded the bases with two outs when New York Yankees pitcher Andrew Miller walked Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Duvall.

Harris was called from the bullpen to face pinch hitter Aledmys Diaz of the St. Louis Cardinals, who worked the count to 3-2 before Harris struck him out looking on a 93 mph cut fastball, ending the NL threat.

The American League went on to post the 4-2 victory, ensuring home-field advantage for the AL team that reaches the World Series this fall.

Harris, a native of Slidell, La., who played at LSU from 2003-06, is one of the AL’s top relievers this season, boasting nine saves, 39 strikeouts and a 1.62 ERA in 39 innings.
