BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU men’s tennis head coach Jeff Brown announced Tuesday signee Julián Saborio will be eligible to begin play with the Tigers during the 2016-17 season.

Ranked as high as 230 in the ITF junior world rankings in 2014, the highly touted prospect Saborio hails from San José, Costa Rica. Saborio has collected 27 career singles wins and 43 doubles victories on the ITF junior circuit.

“Although Julián would have been a great addition to last years squad we are thankful he was cleared and has all four years of eligibility,” Brown said. “Along with Rafael Wagner and Agie Moreno it is a great incoming class to join our top three players from last season that are all returning.”

The 6-foot-3 right-hander reached the semifinals of a futures event in Feb. 2015 after defeating two players ranked in the top-800 of the men’s world rankings.

In 2014, Saborio won a Grade 4 ITF junior event and also took home Grade B3 ITF doubles championship.

Saborio is expected to enroll at LSU in the fall and compete as a freshman.
