BATON ROUGE, La. LSU men’s tennis announced Friday the signing of Rafael Lima Wagner as part of the 2016 recruiting class to join fellow newcomer Agustin Moreno as freshmen in the fall.

“Rafael is a big time player and athlete,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “He is a great kid from a wonderful family. He is a strong 6-foot-5 and just 17 with a ton of talent and experience, we can’t wait to work with him.”

The Brasilia, Brazil, native has gotten wins over the No. 3 and No. 5 players in the U.S. according to tennisrecruiting.net along with several victories in various International Tennis Federation events.

Among some of his best performances, in 2016 Wagner reached the quarterfinals of both singles and doubles in a grade 2 ITF in Chile. Wagner was the singles winner at the grade 4 ITF in South Carolina in 2015 along with reaching the doubles finals.

In the grade 5 ITF in Paraguay, the 17-year-old standout took an overall victory with partner Enzo Kohn.

Wagner is expected to enroll at LSU in the fall and compete as a freshman in the 2016-17 season.
