Rysemus Earns All-America Honors at NCAA’s

ATLANTA — Junior Logan Rysemus finished fourth in the 100 fly and eighth in the 100 back consolation finals to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors in both events on day three of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

Rysemus lowered his school record in the 100 back to 45.91 during prelims to jump from the 18th seed to 11th overall. Rysemus finished 9th in prelims to take the top seed in the 100 fly.

“Today was an impressive performance for Logan,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “For his first race individually at NCAA’s, he put four really good laps together in the morning to get a second swim. Thirty-five minutes later to come back and lower his school record was equally as impressive.”

Rysemus became the sixth All-American in the 100 fly and the first since Hannes Heyl in 2011. He is the third swimmer to earn the honors in a backstroke event in school history.

The Tacoma, Washington native became the first Tiger since Andrei Tumola to earn the recognition in two different events individually. He also became the 10th male LSU swimmer to earn the recognition in two different individual events at the same NCAA meet.

Senior Alex Linge also competed for the Tigers in the 100 fly and finished 31st overall with a time of 46.90. Linge returns to the pool for his final collegiate swim in the 100 free Saturday.

“Alex has a good shot of improving his 100 tomorrow,” Geyer said. “His freestyle has looked great since SEC’s and if we can dip under 43 then he has a shot at a second swim.”
