Linge, Rysemus Qualify for NCAA’s

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU swimmers Logan Rysemus and Alex Linge have qualified for the 2016 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships March 24-26 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

“I’m really excited about Logan’s development this year,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “To go from not making the meet individually his first two years to be ranked fifth in the psych sheet in the 100 fly is a true testament of the quality of a young man he is and his commitment to himself.”

Rysemus swam an ‘A’ cut of 45.59 at SEC Championships for the fifth-best time in the country. The junior out of Tacoma, Washington won silver in the event and set the best time in school history.

In addition to his silver medal, Rysemus also finished fourth in the 100 back with a time of 45.96. Rysemus broke the 12-year old school record originally set by Evan Martinec (46.23). The SEC Community Service Team member became the first Tiger in school history to go sub-46 in both the 100 back and 100 fly.

Linge reached the championship final of the 100 fly and 100 free for the Tigers. The senior set the school record in the 100 free with a time of 43.19. Linge broke the record of 43.22 originally set by Adam Schmitt in 1988 and tied by Andrei Tuomola in 2013. At the Bulldog Last Chance, Linge lowered the record to 43.16 in the 100 free.

At the conference meet, Linge finished eighth in the 100 free and sixth in the 100 fly. The Swedish native’s 100 fly time of 46.26 is ranked 25th in the country.

“For Alex to make the meet as a senior is a great way to finish his NCAA career,” Geyer added. “He has gone for relays in the past, but to finally progress past the cut line and make the meet is just awesome. I really think based off of the feedback from them at SEC’s they have potential to improve their times in Atlanta.”
