Women’s Tennis to Face Ole Miss

BATON ROUGE, La— After splitting its opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play, the 15th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team (12-4, 1-1 SEC) returns to action against No. 27 Ole Miss (8-1, 1-1 SEC) at 4 p.m. Friday inside the LSU Tennis Complex.

Students are encouraged to come out for point night and free pizza. There will also be free LSU Tennis yo-yos and $4 ticket vouchers for the baseball game that night against Ball State.

Joana Vale Costa owns the top spot in the Lady Tigers’ lineup with a 10-4 record in dual matches. The junior is ranked 20th in the country in the latest ITA singles release.

Sophomore Ryann Foster is a perfect 13-0 this spring between courts three and four. Foster owns a 1-0 conference record and boasts a 15-match win streak.

Senior Skylar Kuykendall and junior Abby Owens both own a five-match win streak. Most recently, Kuykendall clinched LSU’s 4-3 victory over Alabama in the opening match of conference play. Owens is 11-3 and 2-0 in conference play. The junior recorded LSU’s lone point in a loss to Auburn Saturday.

Ole Miss’ sole loss came at the hands of seventh-ranked Georgia last weekend. The Rebels own three ranked wins on the season, including a 4-3 victory over eight-ranked Stanford.

In singles play, Arianne Hartono (49th), Natalie Suk (79th) and Mai El Kamash (62nd) lead the way for Ole Miss. Hartono carries a 6-1 record into Friday’s contest this spring and 3-4 mark against ranked opponents.

The Rebels lead the all-time series 26-16 and have won six of the last eight matches. Last season, the Lady Tigers ended a three-match losing streak to Ole Miss with a 4-2 win in Oxford.
