FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The LSU beach volleyball team earned a weekend sweep at the FIU Beach Invitational on Saturday morning, sweeping New Orleans, 5-0, to tally its third victory of the weekend.

With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season, giving the team its best start in program history.

“You go into a weekend wanting to win and to play well, and we came out of it having done both,” said associate head coach Russell Brock. “We’re excited that we played well and finished well. We said from the beginning we’re deep, and we’re going to be competitive. . I was excited because when you play well and have success, it makes you more excited to go home and want to improve. We’ll go and stoke that fire because we want to be great.”

Callan Molle and Cati Leak gave LSU an early 1-0 lead, winning in straight sets at the three spot.

Number one duo Katie Lindelow and Ashley Allmer followed with another victory in straight sets to give the Lady Tigers a two-point cushion.

Victoria Boraski and Megan Davenport dominated at the five spot, registering the third point of the match for LSU in two sets.

On court two, Lilly Kessler and Helen Boyle continued their impressive weekend performance in a two-setter, adding to the Lady Tigers’ lead 4-0.

Number four pair Mandi Orellana and Cheyenne Wood closed out the match with another two-set win to lift LSU to a 5-0 win over New Orleans.

The Lady Tigers wrapped up the weekend with an exhibition match. Riley Young and Jeni Clark defeated No. 5 Florida International on court six in straight sets.

“(For the weekend) every pair on our team this weekend won a match that counted toward our team total,” said Brock. “That goes to help explain how far we have come, and that is one of the things I’m most proud of. We got contribution from everyone on the team, and that’s what we’re looking for.”
