Gallagher Leads Lady Tigers at Darius Rucker

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – LSU freshman golfer Kathleen Gallagher posted a 3-over par 74 to lead the Lady Tigers on the first day of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club Friday.

Gallagher is in a tie for 31st place after the first round of the three-day event.

LSU is in a tie for 13th place after one round at 19-over par 303 over the par 71 layout with Furman, South Carolina and Mississippi State. Three teams were under par in the opening round with Alabama at -6, 278 the leader followed by Virginia at -3 281 and Vanderbilt at -2 282.

Three golfers from each of the top three teams lead at 4-under par 67 – Cheyenne Knight of Alabama; Alexandra Farnsworth of Vanderbilt; and, Lauren Coughlin of Virginia.

The Lady Tigers started on the back nine and Gallagher turned at 3-over 38, but parred all nine holes on the front side to conclude her round. Carly Goldstein, who posted 4-over 75, shot 4-over 39 on holes 10-18 to open the tournament and then posted even par on the front side with two birdies and two bogeys.

Sugar Bowl winner Sydney Cavin also struggled at the start, posting 6-over on holes 10-18 and then brought the round home at 5-over 76 with a 1-under par front nine to conclude the round.

Nadine Dreher and Elise Bradley would round out LSU’s scoring with 78s. LSU would count an even par team score on the final nine holes of play in the opening round of the tournament.
