BATON ROUGE – LSU men’s basketball players took part in reading to youngsters Wednesday at LaSalle Elementary in Baton Rouge.
The event was in conjunction with National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day.
The date marks the birthday of late writer and illustrator, Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss.
The National Education Association created an initiative in conjunction with the author’s birthday which is now in its 19th year.
“I loved sharing the fun of reading with the kids at LaSalle Elementary,” said senior Henry Shortess, who will graduate from LSU in May. “It was great to see their excitement and curiosity.”
Shortess and senior Keith Hornsby were two of the players honored in senior day ceremonies prior to Tuesday night’s LSU win over Missouri.
“Working with the third graders was so much fun,” said Hornsby. “They were so energetic and easy to talk to. They also blew my mind on how many different and random things they knew. They’re a very smart group. LaSalle Elementary School was a great experience.”
The Tigers conclude the regular season at Kentucky on Saturday at 1 p.m. Follow updates on the program at www.Facebook.com/LSUBasketball and on Twitter @LSUBasketball.
