Women’s Golf Posts Strong Round 2 at Sugar Bowl

NEW ORLEANS – The LSU women’s golf team posted a very strong second round team score Monday and sophomore Baton Rouge golfer Sydney Cavin remained in contention after two rounds of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.

The tournament went to a shotgun format and an early start Monday to get the second round of the 54-hole event in before any severe weather entered the area. The final round is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.

Cavin posted 1-over 73 on the second day after a two-birdie, three-bogey round and is at 2-under 142 after 36 holes (69-73) and in a group tied for seventh place. She is four shots out of the lead held by Lauren Kim of Stanford at 6-under 138 (68-70).

The Lady Tigers round looked good on all fronts, posting a 3-over par round of 291, a seven-shot improvement over the opening round on Sunday and good enough to move LSU up three spots to seventh after 36 holes.

Senior Elise Bradley of Mandeville had four birdies in an even par round of 72, while senior Nadine Dreher also had four birdies and freshman Kathleen Gallagher had three birdies as both had one-over rounds of 73. Bradley, Dreher and Gallagher are all T43 in the individual competition.

Carly Goldstein improved her score seven shots after Sunday’s 81 to shoot 74, including 2-under on holes 10-18. Lana Hodge, playing as in individual, also improved five shots on Monday, shooting 76.

After 36 holes, LSU is at 13-over 589 (298-291) with Florida leading the event at 569 (-7) after rounds of 288 and 281. The Gators lead Oklahoma State at 576 (287-289) with Arizona at 577 rounding out the top three.
