ATHENS, Ga. – Fresh off a season-high 197.425 last week at home against Arkansas, the fifth-ranked LSU gymnastics team heads back on the road this week to take on No. 11 Georgia at 3 p.m. CT Saturday in Stegeman Coliseum.
LSU (7-1, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) hopes to carry the momentum from last week’s big win as the Tigers try to extend their SEC regular season unbeaten streak against Georgia. LSU has won 10 straight regular season meets against SEC foes.
LSU is in for a big challenge as Georgia (3-3, 3-1) is coming off a huge upset of previously No. 1 Florida, 196.400-196.350, in Athens last week.
Head coach D-D Breaux knows the atmosphere will be loud with a big crowd expected in Stegeman, and her message to the team this week has been to challenge them to continue to feed off last week’s strong performance.
“Consistency wins,” Breaux said. “We have to maintain that edge and go in there with the same spirit and attitude. We cannot let the fact that we were at home last week define our performance this week.”
Both teams enter the meet ranked in the Top 10 on vault, bars and floor. LSU is No. 1 nationally on vault, No. 6 on floor and No. 9 on bars. The Tigers are also No. 15 on beam.
Georgia is No. 4 on bars, No. 5 on vault and No. 7 on floor, but the Gym Dogs are ranked 42nd nationally on beam.
Eight LSU gymnasts are ranked in at least one category, led by Myia Hambrick who is No. 4 nationally in the all-around, 20th on vault, 23rd on bars and 25th on floor. Ashleigh Gnat is first on vault, sixth on floor and 16th in the all-around. Erin Macadaeg is No. 1 on floor, and Sydney Ewing is No. 6 on vault. Randii Wyrick ranks 24th on floor and 25th on vault, while Lexie Priessman is 10th on bars, Shae Zamardi is 17th on bars and Julianna Cannamela is 25th on vault.
Georgia is led by Brandie Jay who ranks fifth nationally on vault, eighth in the all-around and 18th on bars. Brittany Rogers ranks No. 7 on bars while Mary Beth Box is 14th on floor and Sydney Snead is 25th on vault.
Saturday’s contest will be carried live on SEC Network+ and available to watch online. A live stats link will be available on LSUsports.net.
