Hambrick Earns SEC Gymnast of the Week Honor

BATON ROUGE – LSU sophomore Myia Hambrick has been named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week after her stellar performance against Arkansas, the league office announced Tuesday.

Hambrick had arguably the finest meet of her young career to lead LSU past then-No. 8 Arkansas, 197.425-196.150, on Feb. 5 in the Maravich Center.

The Temple, Georgia native won at least a share of all five individual titles in the meet, to become the first LSU gymnast to accomplish that feat since Rheagan Courville did it on Feb. 6, 2015 against Georgia.

Hambrick tied or set career highs on bars (9.925), beam (9.925), floor (9.90) and the all-around (39.625) to lead LSU past Arkansas.

The bars, beam and floor titles were the first of her career, and she is now up to seven individual titles this season, including a team-leading three all-around crowns.

Hambrick’s 39.625 was not only a career high, but it was also the highest all-around total in the SEC this past week.

This is Hambrick’s second SEC weekly honor of the season as she also earned gymnast of the week after the season opener against Oklahoma.

No. 5 LSU (7-1, 3-0 SEC) travels to face No. 11 Georgia (3-3, 3-1) at 3 p.m. CT Saturday in Stegeman Coliseum. The meet will be carried live online by the SEC Network+.
