The Tigers are 9-6 overall and 2-1 in the SEC after a 68-62 loss at Florida on Saturday in a game in which LSU was down to Florida either 1 or 2 points six times in the final 20 minutes but couldn’t get even or past the Gators. Ole Miss is 12-3 and 2-1 in the league after winning both games this past week in the opening of the new Pavilion at Ole Miss.

The Rebels defeated Alabama, 74-66, and then point-guard Stefan Moody dribbled between defenders to score in the final seconds as Ole Miss defeated Georgia, 72-71.

A senior, Moody, leads the SEC, and ranks sixth nationally in scoring at 23.9 points per game this season. He has scored 20-plus points in 10 straight games, which is the best streak in school history. Also averaging in double figures is junior forward Sebastian Saiz at 12.5 points per game.

“(Stefan) Moody is a very explosive guard,” said LSU Coach Johnny Jones. “Last year, he played more of the two. This year, they are playing him more at the one and starting him off. He has the ball in his hand a lot more. He’s creative, tough … He’ll get into the rim and shoot the deep ball, in terms of the three. He’s really dangerous. He’s one of those guys who helps. He’s the leader of their team. As he goes, their team goes.”

Ben Simmons led LSU in the Florida contest with 28 points, his third highest scoring total of the year, hitting 7-of-15 field goals and 14-of-16 free throws. He has had four straight double doubles (12 for the year) and 10 straight games in double figures. Keith Hornsby added 10 points.

Simmons comes in averaging 20.6 points per game, 13.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists, while Hornsby is at 15.5 points per game and 2.3 rebounds. Forward Craig Victor II posts in at 12.6 points per game and 6.6 rebounds and point guard Tim Quarterman averages 11.5 points per game and 3.7 assists per game. Freshman Antonio Blakeney is expected to start at the off-guard position and he is averaging 9.3 points per game.
