BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU Swimming and Diving team returns to competition for a tri meet against Kentucky and Virginia Tech Jan. 8-9 at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.

Competition begins Friday at 1 p.m. CT for one-meter and three-meter diving. The mile begins at 1:45 p.m. CT Friday, and the first swim session gets started at 4 p.m. CT.

“This is a continuation of what we did at our invite and of what we have done all season,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “I want to see us compete against some very good competition. We are looking forward to challenging ourselves, which will help us moving forward.”

The Lady Tigers are 6-0 and ranked 24th in the CSCAA Division I Women’s Team poll. The last time out, the women finished third at the Art Adamson Invitational.

Kara Kopcso led the way for the women by finishing second in the 200 fly, third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 fly. The Mandeville, Louisiana, native broke the school record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.55. Kopcso owns the No. 7 time in the nation in the 200 fly and the No. 9 200 IM time.

Leah Troskot reached two ‘A’ finals at the midseason meet. The junior finished third in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free during individual competition. Danielle Stirrat also had a strong showing at Texas A&M by finishing fifth in the championship final of the 200 back. Her time of 1:45.72 in the 200 back ranks 20th in the country.

Diver Madison Sthamann took first on platform with a score of 262.50. Her victory marked the third win in a row on platform at the Art Adamson Invitational for a Lady Tiger diver. Cassie Weil also finished second on platform and three-meter.

Earlier this week, Weil finished first on three-meter at the Georgia Diving Invitational for her seventh win of the year. The senior also finished second on platform to wrap up competition Wednesday.

In diving, Andrew Suchla has led the way as the only male upperclassman. Suchla has three wins so far this year. During the most recent competition, Suchla finished fourth on one-meter.
