Thirty-Two Receive Degrees in Fall Commencement

BATON ROUGE – Thirty-two LSU student-athletes received their college degree on Friday as the University held its Fall Commencement here on campus.

Among the 32 LSU student-athlete graduates included women’s soccer midfielder Mariel McLaughlin, who was recognized as a University Medalist. McLaughlin graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Biology.

“We are extremely proud of the 32 student-athletes that graduated today,” LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. “It’s our goal that every one of our student-athletes earn their degree and leave LSU having had a great experience both in the classroom and in competition. I congratulate this group of student-athletes and wish them well in their future endeavors.”

Matty Ott, the all-time saves leader for the Tigers baseball team with 33 during his career, graduated with a degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences. Ott holds the LSU single-season saves record as well with 16 in 2009.

Nine current members of the LSU football team graduated including defensive tackle Quentin Thomas, who became the first member of his family to earn a college degree. Among the other football graduates include starting linebacker Lamar Louis, starting punter Jamie Keehn, starting wide receiver John Diarse, and Corey Thompson.

Madeline Sagstrom, the 2014 SEC Women’s Golfer of the Year and a three-time All-SEC selection, graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Sagstrom, a first team All-America in 2014, is currently pursuing a career on the LPGA Tour.

A.J. Andrews, a key member of LSU’s Women’s College World Series team a year ago and a three-time All-SEC selection, graduated with a degree in Sports Administration, while record-setting gymnasts Jessie Jordan earned her degree in Kinesiology. Jordan finished her LSU gymnastics career as an 11-time All-American, three-time All-SEC performer, the 2015 Central Region Gymnast of the Year and the 2015 SEC all-around co-champion along with fellow Tiger Rheagan Courville.

“We, in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes, are extremely proud of our student-athletes’ ultimate measure of success,” Kenneth Miles, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs & Executive Director Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes, said. “As a participant of the 288th Fall Commencement, we can now call them graduates.
