BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team wrapped up fall practice in front of a strong contingent of fans at the third annual Gymnastics 101 showcase event Monday night in the Maravich Center.
LSU strung together consistently solid routines to finish with a low 197 team score.
“They did fabulous tonight. Consistency wins, and we counted a lot of 9.85s with some 9.9 scores tonight,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “It was nice to get out here and test landings and feel the buzz and excitement in the crowd. Now, we will head back to our beautiful new training facility and get ready to open the season on Jan. 9 vs. Oklahoma.”
Breaux and associate head coach Jay Clark took to the microphone throughout the exhibition meet to explain to the crowd what they were seeing while also providing insight into the gymnasts and their routines.
Breaux announced three vault scores to the crowd with Myia Hambrick leading the way with a 9.90 along with 9.85s from Jessica Savona and Ashleigh Gnat.
In the second rotation, Sarah Finnegan, Randii Wyrick and Hambrick posted 9.85s on bars as the leading scores for the Tigers.
LSU received 9.90 performances from Hambrick, Finnegan and Ashleigh Gnat on beam to wrap up a stellar third rotation.
On floor Finnegan tallied a 9.90 followed by 9.85s from Hambrick, Wyrick, Savona and Shae Zamardi.
The Tigers will practice one final time Tuesday before taking off for the holiday break.
LSU will return to practice on Dec. 28 in preparation for the 2016 season opener against Oklahoma on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. CT in the Maravich Center.
