BATON ROUGE – LSU begins on-field preparation for its Texas Bowl matchup against Texas Tech on Monday afternoon as the 21st-ranked Tigers will practice for the first time since the final week of the regular season.
The Tigers and the Red Raiders meet for the first time since 1957 on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at NRG Stadium in Houston for the AdvoCare Texas Bowl. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN with Joe Tessitore, Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Maria Taylor calling the action.
LSU brings an 8-3 overall record into the contest as the Tigers reached the 8-win mark for an on-going school record 16th consecutive year with the 19-7 win over Texas A&M on Nov. 28. The Red Raiders bring a two-game winning streak into the bowl game and stand at 7-5 overall.
LSU leads the overall series with the Red Raiders, 2-0. LSU beat Texas Tech, 20-13, in Lubbock in 1954 and then followed that with a 19-14 victory in Tiger Stadium in 1957. The Tigers will be making their second trip to Houston in as many years as LSU opened the 2014 season with a 28-24 win over Wisconsin in NRG Stadium.
Prior to the win over Wisconsin last year, LSU hadn’t played a game in Houston since a 24-10 win over Rice at Rice Stadium in 1983.
The Tigers will practice each day next week and will cap off the week with the team’s annual Senior Banquet on Sunday evening. LSU is also slated to have a handful of players graduate on Friday as the school will hold commencement on campus.
The Tigers will take a two-day break for Christmas following a morning workout on Dec. 23. LSU departs for Houston on the morning of Dec. 26.
