BATON ROUGE – The LSU Athletics Department and LSU men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones confirmed on Sunday that it had received and approved the NLI papers of point guard Skylar Mays of Baton Rouge.
Mays, a two-time all-state selection who led University High of Baton Rouge to back-to-back Class 3A state titles, will play his senior season at Findlay Prep in Las Vegas. That is where he signed his papers in ceremonies at the school on Friday.
Mays averaged 9.1 points, 8.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds at University High, where he teamed with another LSU fall signee, Wayde Sims.
“We look forward to Skylar Mays joining our 2016-17 basketball team,” said Coach Jones. “He has a high basketball IQ with phenomenal point guard skills in terms of handling, passing and creating opportunities for his teammates. He will be a great addition to our basketball team. I had the pleasure of watching him the last four years and know he will certainly fit in our style of play which will be a wonderful asset for our program.”
Besides Mays and Sims, a 6-6 forward from Baton Rouge, the Tigers signed Kieran Hayward from Sydney, Australia and guard Branden Jenkins and forward Duop Reath from Lee College in Baytown, Texas.
