BATON ROUGE, La.– In the opening day of the CCB Collegiate Invitational Friday, duo Tam Trinh and Gabor Csonka took down two teams to send them to Saturday’s doubles finals.

In the pair’s first match, Csonka/Trinh defeated Middle Tennessee’s Issa/Zatar with a score of 8-6 to advance to face UAB’s Komati/Martell. The Tigers picked up an 8-5 win against the Blazers to finish out the day.

LSU also advanced all three singles participants to the quarterfinals. Trinh, in a match against Samford’s Trey Carter, won 6-3, 7-6(4).

After facing UAB’s Mitchell Martin in doubles, Csonka saw him again one on one with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Martin.

Newcomer Cameron Andry also found success Friday against UAB. Opponent Henry Paiste fell short in the first set, losing 7-5 but was able to take down Andry in the second set with a tiebreaker, 6-7(6). Andry’s determination shined through in the third set with a deciding 6-2 victory for the Tigers.

“It’s great to have Tam (Trinh), Gabor (Csonka), and Cameron (Andry) in the singles quarterfinals,” Head Coach Jeff Brown said. “It was a good win for Tam and was nice to see us building off last weekend’s tournament.”

Saturday, the Tigers will begin the doubles finals at 9 a.m. against the University of Texas’s Adrian Ortiz and Julian Zlobinsky followed by Trinh, Csonka and Andry in the singles quarterfinals at 1 p.m. facing opponents from UT, Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss, respectively.
