COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – Two weeks after competing at the SEC Championships, LSU’s men’s and women’s cross country teams return to College Station, Texas, to race at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Friday at Watts Cross Country Course.
The women will begin the action racing the 6k course at 10 a.m. CT, and the men will follow racing the 10k course at 11 a.m.
The Tigers finished 12th at the SEC Championships, while the Lady Tigers came in 14th place. Freshman Dajour Braxton and senior Morgan Schuetz led the way for the men and women with Braxton finishing 30th and Schuetz finishing 69th.
Braxton clocked a personal best time of 24 minutes, 29.2 seconds and landed a spot on the SEC Men’s All-Freshman Team.
“I’m very excited to compete in my first 10k race,” Braxton said. “I look forward to competing in tomorrow’s race.”
After completing the regular season and conference meet as LSU’s leading runner, Braxton earned SEC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year honors as the first runner in the history for LSU to do so.
Joining Braxton, at the Regional Championships will be junior Christian Johnson, who finished shortly behind Braxton at the SEC Championships with a time of 24:53.9 for 51st place.
Competing with Schuetz at the South Central Regional meet is freshman Hannah Bourque. Bourque was the second runner to finish for the Lady Tigers coming in 118th place with a time of 23:2.3.
The Tigers will compete against 27 teams, while Lady Tigers will race against 24 teams from eight conferences including the American Athletic, Big 12, Conference USA, Southeastern, Southland, Southwestern Athletic, Sun Belt and Western Athletic Conference.
The top two teams and the top four individuals not among the top two teams will earn an automatic spots in the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Nov. 21.
