Fournette Remains Nation’s Leading Rusher

BATON ROUGE – LSU running back Leonard Fournette continues to lead the nation in every major rushing category as the sophomore has racked up 1,352 yards on 176 carries during the first seven games of the season for the fourth-ranked and undefeated Tigers.

Fournette’ 1,352 rushing yards is nearly 200 yards better than second-rated Tyler Ervin of San Jose State. Fournette is also averaging 193.1 yards per game, 43 yards more than Dalvin Cook of Florida State. His 15 rushing touchdowns also leads the nation.

Fournette ranks No. 3 in the nation in both all-purpose yards per game (201.43) and points per game (12.9).

Fournette goes into LSU’s open date after rushing for 150 yards and a touchdown the Tigers’ 48-20 win over Western Kentucky last Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. Fournette has rushed for at least 150 yards in all seven of LSU’s game this year becoming the first player in the FBS to accomplish such a feat since 2007 when Kevin Smith of Central Florida did it.

LSU defensive end Lewis Neal is No. 8 in the nation in sacks with 1.0 a contest, while placekicker Trent Domingue is tied for first along with Marshall’s Nick Smith in field goal percentage at 1.000. Domingue is a perfect 9-of-9 on field goals this year for the Tigers.

As a team, LSU ranks No. 4 in the nation in rushing yards with 309.1 yards per game. LSU is No. 13 in the nation in scoring offense and 38.9 points per game and the Tigers are No. 27 in total offense with 466.0 yards per game.

Defensively, the Tigers are No. 7 nationally in defending the run, allowing just 93.7 yards a contest and they are No. 20 in the nation in total defense at 315.9 yards a game.

LSU is the only team in the FBS that has yet to throw an interception. In seven games, the Tigers have thrown 129 passes without an interception.
