AUBURN, Ala. — Freshman Jessica Golovin and the team of Skylar Kuykendall and Abby Owens run ended in the final of singles and doubles play at the ITA Southern Regional at the Yarbrough Tennis Center Monday.

For the first time in at least 18 years, LSU had a singles competitor and doubles team in the final draw of the regional tournament. It also marked the first time since 2008 that a Lady Tiger team has played in the doubles main draw final.

“I’m very proud of this team and their efforts this week,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “We had players in singles and doubles finals and two in the semifinals. I felt like the entire team really learned a lot and improved with each match. Michael (Sell) and I are excited to get them back on the practice court and build on what we saw this weekend.”

Golovin’s run ended at the hands of Auburn’s Andie Dikosavljevic 7-6, 6-4 Monday morning. The final capped a successful debut for Golovin. The freshman won three matches over top-60 opponents in route to the final.

Owens and Kuykendall’s run ended at the hands of Alabama’s Andie Daniell and Erin Routliffe 6-4, 7-5. The LSU team earned a win over Arianne Hartono/Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 in the semifinal.

The Lady Tigers return to Baton Rouge for a couple weeks of training at the LSU Tennis Complex before competing in Chapel Hill, N.C. Nov. 5-8 at the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
