AUBURN, Ala. — LSU women’s tennis players Joana Vale Costa, Jessica Golovin and Skylar Kuykendall advanced to the quarterfinal of the ITA Southern Regional Saturday at Auburn’s Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Vale Costa led the way for the Lady Tigers with a 6-2, 6-0 win over South Alabama’s Alexandra Stiteler. The junior will face off against freshman Andie Daniell of Alabama Sunday.
Freshman Jessica Golovin defeated ULM’s Petra Horakova 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3). Golovin will take on Alabama’s Pleun Burgmans in the quarterfinal of the singles competition. Burgmans was 47th in the ITA preseason ranking.
Junior Skylar Kuykendall was the final Lady Tiger to advance to the semifinal. Kuykendall defeated Northwestern State’s Natalya Krutova 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4. She’ll take on Mississippi State’s Anastasia Rentouli Sunday.
Two of the doubles teams also advanced to the semifinal at the regional. Abby Owens and Kuykendall defeated Tulane’s team of Ipek Birol and Sade Atkinson 8-2. Ryann Foster and Golovin also combined to defeat Southern Miss’ Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen, 8-5.
