PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Junior Abby Owens fell to TCU’s Marie Norris 6-2, 6-5 in the opening round of pre-qualifying for the ITA All-American Saturday at the Riviera Club.
“Abby has had a tremendous few weeks of practice coming off a solid tournament last weekend, but today we put a lot of undo pressure on ourselves and played a very tentative match,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “It wasn’t until a set and 1-4 down that we finally relaxed a bit and started to play on our terms. We need to learn from today and regroup for our doubles match tomorrow.”
Owens and senior Skylar Kuykendall will team up for the opening round of pre-qualifying for doubles tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT. The duo earned a bye in the first round and will take on either Laura Gulbe and Dzina Milovanovic of Pepperdine or Maria Alavarez and Kelsey Laurente of Oklahoma State.
