LSU Softball Feature Earns Telly Award

BATON ROUGE, La. – From a list of more than 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, a feature on the LSU softball team has won a prestigious Telly Award that ran during the first season of Inside LSU Softball with Coach Beth Torina last spring it was announced.

Earning a Bronze award in the category of TV Programs, Segments, or Promotional Pieces – News or News Feature, executive producer Justin Webb, producer/co-host Garrett Walvoord and Torina were bestowed with the honor thanks to the feature on the “Fantastic Four”, LSU’s quartet of pitchers that helped lead the Tigers back to the Women’s College World Series in the summer.

“This award is a testament to the hard work of both Garrett and Justin during the first run of Inside LSU Softball,” Torina said. “We are honored by this recognition, and we are looking forward to producing many more award-winning features.”

The setting featured the various aspects of Tiger Park that the group used the most in the pitcher’s circle and the bullpen area, as all four were interviewed in the piece. Included in the package were highlights of all four pitchers, but included a voiceover and other comic book accents to it to add a bit of extra flare to the overall finished product.

“No one had ever seen an accumulation of talent like this before, and watching them pitch was truly a “supernatural” experience for the LSU fans,” Walvoord said. “The players’ positive attitudes and willingness to open up for the camera helped create an award-winning feature that promotes all the best attributes of LSU softball. The Telly statue is further evidence that the tradition of great work continues within the LSU Athletic Department.”

Inside LSU softball was set for a run of a handful of shows during the middle of the season, but due to high demand more shows were added at the end of the year which led into LSU’s run into the postseason and will return in the spring of 2016.

“When Mark Ewing approached me with the idea of creating and executive producing a television show for the LSU softball team, I only dreamed that we would be awarded in our first season,” Webb said. “My hat is off to the LSU pitching staff and athletes for their incredible work ethic and dedication. Garrett created an incredible piece for Inside LSU Softball. We can all stand tall and salute Tiger fans across the nation.”

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.
