Volleyball Holds ‘Bump up the Jam’ For Students

BATON ROUGE, La. – On a sunlit afternoon this past Sunday at the LSU Parade Grounds, LSU athletics and the Tiger volleyball team hosted “Bump up the Jam”, a student volleyball tournament, to celebrate the beginning of the school year and promote the start of the 2015-16 athletic and academic year.

With the registration process opening up at 11 a.m., the event began in earnest at Noon and ran until about 4 p.m. at the grounds, featuring 32 total teams, made up of four players per side. The teams even came up with some catchy names for their groups, such as “How I Set Your Mother” and “Red Hot Chili Setters”, among others.

Prizes and giveaways were dished out throughout the event, featuring koozies, prize packs and gift certificates, with an LSU football jersey included in the mix. When the dust settled, the winning team won the grand prize of 2015 LSU football home season tickets in the student section.

The event provided an environment full of competition, fun, free food, drinks, and music, while also giving a chance for students to meet and interact with their classmates and the LSU Volleyball coaches and players.

LSU opens the 2015 regular season next Friday, August 28 at 2:30 p.m. against UC Irvine to open the American Campus Classic hosted by the University of Texas. All three matches for the Tigers will be shown on the Longhorn Network and WatchESPN. The Tigers will play their first home match of the year September 11 against Purdue inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
