BATON ROUGE – The 41st-ranked LSU women’s tennis team defeated Nicholls, 5-1, behind straight-set wins on courts one through five Wednesday afternoon at ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium.
“I liked the way we came out with a sense of urgency,” head coach Julia S. Sell said. “We had a strong intensity after a tough and emotional weekend. The worry was that we might let off the gas pedal but we didn’t. I was proud of the way we came out and played our game, which was encouraging going into the weekend.”
No. 39 Joana Vale Costa defeated Stephanie Barnett on court one 6-2, 6-0 to extend her winning streak to three matches. Ella Taylor followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court four over Milou Pietersz to put LSU on top, 2-0.
No. 69 Skylar Kuykendall defeated Klara Skopac on court two 6-1, 6-4. The junior extended her winning streak to six matches and improved her overall record to 17-3 on the year.
Noel Scott then clinched the match for the Lady Tigers with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court three over Marie Aubert.
Skylar Holloway remained undefeated on court five for the season with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Isla Brock.
There was no doubles point as determined by the coaches prior to the match.
The Lady Tigers begin a four-match road swing Friday at 3 p.m. CT in Oxford, Mississippi against Ole Miss.
