GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Amber Carter tied the school record in the 100 fly (52.11) during prelims on the way to her first All-American honor, and Cassie Weil earned her fifth All-American honor on day two of NCAA Championships.
Weil collected her third NCAA Honorable Mention All-American honor on three-meter with a score of 336.35 during prelims and score of 340.30 during finals. The junior finished 11th overall during prelims and fourth in the consolation final.
“I’m proud of the way Cassie and Alex (Bettridge) performed today,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Cassie had a great day and could have made the final of three-meter. I really feel for Alex too because she was just on the outside of making the final. I know they both will respond well and put it all out on the line tomorrow on platform.”
Carter finished 14th in the country during the consolation final and is an NCAA Honorable Mention All American in the 100 fly.
“We definitely had some highs and lows today,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “I’m really proud of Amber for tying the school record and having an opportunity to score points for our program. Our women will take this experience and learn from it. The meet isn’t over yet and I know our women will respond well on the final day.
In the first event of the day, the women’s 200 medley relay team of Caley Oquist, Colleen O’Neil, Amber Carter and Leah Troskot just missed the final with a time of 1:37.70 to finish 17th.
Kara Kopcso also had a nice swim in the 100 fly. The sophomore finished 27th overall with a time of 52.56.
In the 200 free prelims, Troskot finished 48th with a time of 1:47.90. O’Neil also tallied a time of 1:01.04 for 35th in the 100 breast.
Oquist wrapped up the individual events by finishing 25th in the 100 back (52.90).
The Lady Tigers return to action for the final day of NCAA Championships. The women will compete in four events including platform featuring Weil, Bettridge and Madison Sthamann.
