BATON ROUGE – NFL Hall of Famer and current analyst for the NFL Network Michael Irvin will be the headline speaker at this year’s LSU Football Coaches Clinic, which will be held next week on the LSU campus.
The annual coaches clinic starts on Thursday, March 19 and concludes with the LSU football scrimmage in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, March 21. The cost of the clinic is $65. Coaches can register online at www.LSUcamp.com or by calling the LSU Football Office at 225.578.1151.
Irvin, a first draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 1988, is considered one of the best receivers to play in the NFL. In 12 years in the NFL, all with the Cowboys, Irvin caught 750 passes for 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns. He was part of three Super Bowl Championship teams with Dallas and was named a member of the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team.
“We’ve put together another great lineup for our coach’s clinic again this year,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “Michael Irvin is one of the best to ever play the game so it will be great to hear his message and share stories with someone who has accomplished so much because of the game of football.”
In addition to Irvin, the clinic will feature LSU defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron along with first-year Tiger defensive line coach Ed Orgeron.
Former LSU defensive line coach Pete Jenkins, Cincinnati Bengals offensive line coach Paul Alexander and former Tiger standout and current Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry will also be part of the list of speakers.
“This is as good a group of speakers for our clinic that we have ever assembled,” Miles said. “In addition to the LSU coaches who will present, we’ve also got one of the all-time great offensive line coaches in the NFL in Paul Alexander along with one of the great coaches of defensive line play in Pete Jenkins. This lineup of speakers will make for two tremendous days of talking football and learning more about the game.”
A new wrinkle this year is the addition of former LSU standout Landry, who just completed an All-Rookie campaign with the Miami Dolphins. Landry will speak to the group of coaches at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
“I’m excited to have Jarvis (Landry) address our group to share his story and talk about our program and what his first-year NFL experience was like,” Miles said.
The LSU Football Coaches Clinic will give participants an opportunity to see the Tigers practice on Thursday, March 19 and then watch an LSU scrimmage on Saturday, March 21 in Tiger Stadium. There will also be a barbeque social and a crawfish boil for the coaches.
