BATON ROUGE — The 32nd ranked LSU women’s tennis team (11-5, 2-2 SEC) takes on No. 46 Texas A&M (4-3, 2-1 SEC) at 4 p.m. Friday at W.T. ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium.
“Texas A&M is a top program and they are far better than their ranking shows,” head coach Julia Sell said. “We were in a battle last year and we are expecting another great match. Our goal is to be our best in May and we really believe that we have to get better.”
Joana Vale Costa moved to 7-4 and 2-1 in Southeastern Conference play over the weekend and is rated 40th. Vale Costa clinched the match for LSU over South Carolina on court one in a three-set thriller.
Abby Owens is 10-3 on the year and 2-1 in SEC play after her win on court four.
Skylar Kuykendall slid up to court two against the Gamecocks and is ranked 115th in the latest poll. Kuykendall earned the win and moved to 10-3 for the year.
Kuykendall and Owens are also rated 48th in the latest doubles poll. The duo moved back into the poll after defeating Josie Kuhlman and Peggy Porter of Florida. Kuhlman and Porter were rated 18th when they faced off against Owens and Kuykendall in Baton Rouge.
Texas A&M comes to Baton Rouge with four players in the latest ITA singles ranking. All three doubles pairs are also in the latest rankings.
