IOWA CITY , Iowa — Senior Alex Bettridge and Daniel Helm secured their second spot at the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships during day two of NCAA Zone ‘D’ Diving Championships at the University of Iowa’s Recreation and Wellness Center.
Bettridge finished with a two-list score of 613.75 on one-meter, enough for third place. Helm finished with a score of 742.10 for 10th place. Helm secured a spot at NCAA’s on three-meter because of his automatic berth on one-meter during competition on Monday.
“It was a really excellent performance all around,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Alex was solid today. Daniel was a little shaky but his mindset was a little different after qualifying for NCAA’s yesterday. Going into the final day we just want to finish strong. We have a realistic shot of getting another woman to NCAA’s and four total divers qualified on platform.”
Cassie Weil and Allie Alter also made it to the final of three-meter. Alter finished 13th with a score of 564.35 and Weil finished 15th with a score of 552.95.
Andrew Suchla reached the finals again and finished 14th on three-meter. Suchla tallied a score of 688.05 for the event.
The divers return for platform on the final day of qualifying. The Tigers have a strong platform lineup with Helm, Bettridge, Weil, and freshman Madison Sthamann. Three divers earned medals at SEC Championships and Sthamann owns the third-highest score in school history.
