BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU women’s tennis team (11-5, 2-2 SEC) is ranked 32nd in the latest ITA poll. The Lady Tigers take on Nicholls State (5-2) Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT at ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium.

The Lady Tigers moved up 14 spots in the poll after defeating No. 26 South Carolina and Alcorn State. The win over the Gamecocks was the highest ranked win under coach Julia S. Sell and the team ranking of 32 is also the highest under Sell.

“I think we’ve done really good job since SEC season and we have improved from match to match,” Sell said. “After having such a great weekend, we need to come out tomorrow with a lot of energy and discipline.”

Joana Vale Costa moved to 7-4 and 2-1 in Southeastern Conference play and is rated 40th. Vale Costa clinched the match for LSU over South Carolina on court one in a three-set thriller.

Abby Owens is 10-3 on the year and 2-1 in SEC play after her win on court four.

Skylar Kuykendall slid up to court two against the Gamecocks and is ranked 115th in the latest poll. Kuykendall earned the win and moved to 10-3 for the year.

Kuykendall and Owens are also rated 48th in the latest doubles poll. The duo moved back into the poll after defeating Josie Kuhlman and Peggy Porter of Florida. Kuhlman and Porter were rated 18th when they faced off against Owens and Kuykendall in Baton Rouge.

LSU is a perfect 10-0 against Nicholls State. Last season the Lady Tigers defeated Nicholls 5-2 at the ‘Dub’.
