BATON ROUGE, La. — The No. 46 LSU women’s tennis team (9-5, 1-2 SEC) returns to action Sunday against No. 26 South Carolina (8- 4, 1-2 SEC) at 10 a.m. CT and against Alcorn State at 2 p.m. CT at ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium. The match against the Gamecocks will mark the seventh ranked foe the Lady Tigers have faced this season.
Both matches have been moved up due to expected weather in the area. The South Carolina match was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. and the Alcorn State was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
“I think we have to regroup and learn from out match against Florida,” head coach Julia Sell said. “We will practice again today and continue to improve. Every SEC match is tough and a battle, Sunday will not be any different.”
The Gamecocks have two players ranked, Elixane Lechemia and Caroline Dailey, in singles. The doubles team of Hadley Berg and Dailey is also ranked in the ITA poll. South Carolina is coming off a 5-2 loss at the hands of Texas A&M on Friday.
The Lady Tigers have two players ranked in No. 38 Joana Vale Costa and No. 112 Skylar Kuykendall. Vale Costa led Brooke Austin, the fifth-ranked player in the country, thru three sets in Friday’s match against the Gators but the match went unfinished.
Kuykendall moved up to court two against Florid and fell No. 9 Josie Kuhlman in straight sets. The transfer out of Memphis is 11-3 on the year and 7-3 in her last 10 matches.
The doubles pair of Abby Owens and Kuykendall collected their first win over a ranked opponent. The duo defeated Kuhlman and Josie Porter, ranked 18th, of Florida on court two.
