UPDATE: Sunday’s match against South Carolina moved up to 10 a.m. CT. and the Alcorn State match will follow at 2 p.m.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Joana Vale Costa led No. 5 Brooke Austin 6-3, 6-2, 3-0 thru sets on court one, but the match went unfinished as LSU fell to second-ranked Florida, 4-0, Friday afternoon at W.T. ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium.

“I really liked how we started with the doubles point,” head coach Julia Sell said. “I think we are at a real turning point with this team. I think we’re capable of beating top teams like this but we want it so much. We need to get back to the process a little more. I think Florida is hands down the best team we’ve played so far.”

The Lady Tigers started off the match strong on all three doubles courts but ultimately dropped the point to the Gators. Spencer Liang and Belinda Woolcock defeated Skylar Holloway and Amanda Atanasson, 8-5, on court three.

The duo of Skylar Kuykendall and Abby Owens earned their first ranked win of the year. Kuykendall and Owens defeated No. 18 Peggy Porter and Josie Kuhlman, 8-5, on court two.

Kourtney Keegan and Brooke Austin, ranked fifth in the country, clinched the doubles point for Florida with a 8-6 win on court one over Joana Vale Costa and Noel Scott.

Kuhlman, ranked ninth in the country, earned the first singles point for Florida with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two over Kuykendall.

No. 39 Keegan defeated Ella Taylor 6-2, 6-3 on court five to give the Gators a 3-0 lead.

Noel Scott fell to Briana Morgan 6-3, 6-2 on court three to clinch the match for Florida.

LSU returns to action Sunday for a doubleheader against South Carolina at 10 a.m. CT followed by Alcorn State at 2 p.m. CT.
