Tennessee Coach Donnie Tyndall will make his first appearance as a head coach in the Maravich Center on Wednesday. His first job in Division I came as an assistant coach on John Brady‘s LSU staff from 1997-01.
LSU comes in after a 73-63 win over Ole Miss on Saturday at the Maravich Center and with three straight victories. Quarterman was named the SEC Player of the Week after getting LSU’s first triple-double since 1992 (18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists). But it was also his defensive job on the Rebels that punched LSU through after trailing at halftime.
Jarell Martin had his third consecutive double double and it was the 12th straight game that Hornsby scored in double figures.
The Tigers need to give the game the attention they have given opponents of late, no matter the record of the opponents.
“It’s attention to detail, but a lot of times kids can get caught up in records and teams,” said Coach Johnny Jones. “They’ve watched them play. You know what Ole Miss was bringing the other night – a team that had a nice winning streak going prior to it being broken – and they knew how tough our game was at Ole Miss. We shot the ball extremely well at Tennessee and had a pretty good cushion there for most of the game. Knowing that going back the second time around, it is going to be tough. We just have to be mindful of the type of start we have to get off to against a team of that caliber. You have to be playing well because anytime someone gets confidence whether they are at home or on the road, it is difficult to play against them and try to take that confidence away.”
The Tigers close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Arkansas.
