Notes on the Tigers
LSU is 21-0 on the season after winning five games in the Purple and Gold Challenge over the weekend. The team earned wins over Stephen F. Austin twice, Northwestern State, Florida Atlantic and Ball State. The Tigers continue their best start in program history, as they are only one of two undefeated teams remaining in Division I. This start to the year is among some of the best in the SEC, as this is the second consecutive year the conference has had a team win its first 20 games of the season, as this is the first time since 2007 that the league has had two teams in the same season win that many to start the campaign. This is just the second winning streak of more than 20 games for LSU in program history, as they are just three away from tying the program record of 24 set in 2010. The Tigers are hitting .373 with 165 runs scored. LSU is outhitting its opponents 193-95 so far this season, and outscoring their opponents 165-27. Of their nearly 200 hits, 65 have been for extra bases including 31 doubles, 10 triples and 24 home runs. LSU has a slugging percentage of .610 to its opponent’s .240. The Tigers have just 65 strikeouts as a team, while drawing 76 walks as a group. Just this past weekend alone, LSU hit .437 to just .207 for the rest of the teams. Against the four, LSU earned 55 hits, 18 for extra bases, slugging .722 with a .526 on-base percentage. The Tigers outscored teams 57-8 last weekend. The team is 30-for-36 in stolen bases, swiping a perfect 10 out of 10 bags in the challenge. The Tigers scored double-digit runs in each of its final three games, finishing with no less than seven runs in the five. Along those same lines, LSU had double-digit hits in each of the last three, with no less than eight hits against the teams. Nine of LSU’s wins this season have come via shutout, while run-ruling 10. The 15 runs the team scored against Northwestern State is a season high, with six games having double-digit runs. The 14 hits against the Lady Demons were also a season high, as 12 times this season the Tigers have earned 10 or more hits. A.J. Andrews led all players with a .909 batting average over the weekend, going 10-for-11 with 13 RBIs, three triples and nine runs scored. Andrews slugged 1.545 and had an on-base percentage of .895 with seven stolen bases. Andrews already has more triples than all of last season with seven, the most for career in one year. Eight different players earned at least five hits on the weekend, with 13 earning at least one on the squad. Sahvanna Jaquish was the only other player to earn double-digit RBIs individually, driving in 12 as three of her six hits were home runs. Jaquish leads the team with nine, as six of those are three-run shots. Bailey Landry is on a 13-game hitting streak, the longest for any player this season, and two away from tying Andrews for the longest for any player on the team which is 15 and is also tied for the school record. Bianka Bell tied the all-time career home run mark, tying her with Rachel Mitchell for the most with 33 in her career. Carley Hoover earned two of the team’s five wins, leading the staff with 16 strikeouts to just one walk. Baylee Corbello and Kelsee Selman both pitched shutouts, while Allie Walljasper earned her team-leading seventh win of the season in a complete-game victory. The staff had an ERA of 1.00 while other pitchers combined for a 13.80.
