BATON ROUGE, La. — The No. 37 LSU Women’s tennis team travels to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Lady Tigers face Boston College at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday and either North Carolina or Minnesota on Sunday.
“We are really looking forward to going to UNC,” head coach Julia Sell said. “Last weekend we were able to get the jitters and nerves out. We were able to get a lot of quality match play in. It helped us prepare for this weekend and the tough competition we will face.”
The Lady Tigers travel to Chapel Hill and face tough competition with the Tar Heels, Gophers and the Eagles. North Carolina is ranked third in the latest ITA poll and features three singles players in the top-35. Boston College is ranked 59th and Minnesota comes in at 73rd.
LSU is coming off two wins over McNeese State and Southern. No. 28 Joana Vale Costa grabbed wins on court one in both matches. In the first match of the season, Vale Costa dropped the first set but fought back to earn the win. The sophomore also notched two wins in doubles with partners Noel Scott and Ella Taylor.
Six of the remaining seven Lady Tigers also collected wins on either singles or doubles. Transfer Skylar Kuykendall earned wins on court two and three for LSU and joined in a court one doubles win with Abby Owens.
