BATON ROUGE, La. — The No. 38 LSU Women’s tennis team, under third-year head coach Julia S. Sell, opens up the 2015 season with a doubleheader against McNeese State and Southern Sunday. The matches at W.T. Robinson Stadium mark the beginning of the 45th and final season at the ‘Dub’
“I think we are most excited to get this season started,” Sell said. “The girls came back excited after break. They trained hard and were in good shape. I think we are at the point where we are ready to play and get back to competition mode.”
The first match against McNeese State begins at noon. LSU is 3-0 all-time against the Cowgirls, including a 5-2 win last season.
The Lady Tigers return to the court at 4 p.m. to host Southern. LSU is 22-0 all-time against the Jaguars, a series that dates back to the 1994 season.
The Lady Tigers are led by Vale Costa who begins the season ranked 28th. In addition to Vale Costa’s ranking, Skylar Kuykendall is rated No. 65, Abby Owens starts at No. 74 and Noel Scott was voted No. 115.
“The fall was exceptional,” Sell added. “The individual rankings that came out were an indication of all of their hard work. We haven’t had that high of rankings since I’ve been here. It’s a really positive way to start the season.”
