BATON ROUGE, La. — Five members of the LSU Women’s Tennis team have been ranked in the first ITA Southern Region Rankings of the season.
Sophomore Joana Vale Costa headlines the list for the Lady Tigers at No. 2. Skylar Kuykendall, a transfer out of the University of Memphis, is at No. 8. Abby Owens and Noel Scott are next to each other in the poll at 10th and 11th respectively. Ella Taylor rounds out the poll at No. 20.
LSU also has two doubles teams in the ranking. The team of Scott and Vale Costa sit at No. 6, and the team Kuykendall and Owens are ranked at No. 10.
LSU is tied with Alabama for the most singles players ranked in the region.
Four players on the women’s team were also ranked in the first ITA Singles Rankings of 2015. The team was also ranked 38th, which is the highest ranking under head coach Julia Sell.
The Lady Tigers open up the 2015 season, under third-year coach Julia Sell on Jan. 18 with a doubleheader against McNeese State and Southern. The first match against the Cowgirls begins at noon CT with the second match of the day following at 4 p.m. at Dub Robinson Stadium.
