BATON ROUGE, La. — Joana Vale Costa headlines four members of the LSU women’s tennis team who found spots in the first ITA Singles Rankings of 2015. At No. 28, Vale Costa is the highest ranked Lady Tiger since Megan Falcon finished 13th to end the 2009 season.
“It is always nice to see a visual affirmation of all the hard work that this team put into the fall,” head coach Julia Sell said. “It is only a starting point as we still have a long way to go, but this is an incredibly fun team to work with and we are all very excited to kick off our 2015 season.”
In addition to Vale Costa’s ranking, Skylar Kuykendall is rated No. 65, Abby Owens starts at No. 74 and Noel Scott was voted No. 115. With four players ranked, LSU sits second behind Florida with the most in the Southeastern Conference. The Lady Tigers are also tied for fifth for the most players ranked nationally.
The LSU women’s tennis team is ranked 38th, which is the highest team ranking under Sell.
The Lady Tigers open up the 2015 season, under third-year coach Julia Sell on Jan. 18 with a doubleheader against McNeese State and Southern. The first match against the Cowgirls begins at noon CT with the second match of the day following at 4 p.m. at Dub Robinson Stadium.
