KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU Diving team travels to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the Tennessee Diving Invitational Jan. 3-5 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
The Invitational includes 74 divers from SEC rivals Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky. Divers from Towson, Clemson, Iowa State, SMU, Drexel, Richmond, and North Carolina State will also compete at the three-day invite.
Competition begins Saturday at 11 a.m. with the prelim of the men’s one-meter springboard and women’s three-meter springboard. The top 12 divers will move on to the final that will take place immediately after the prelim.
“We come back after the holidays looking forward to the second half of the season,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “This meet gives us an opportunity to get a jump-start on the second half of the season. We have to get back into the groove and into competition, which should really challenge us.”
Cassie Weil, Alex Bettridge, Allie Alter, Katie Lagarde and Madison Sthamann will take to the springboards and platform for the Lady Tigers.
Sthamann has gotten off to a fast start this season. The freshman took first on platform at the Art Adamson Invitational with the second-highest score in program history. The freshman also swept both springboard events at the LSU Diving Invitational.
Weil and Bettridge traveled to Columbus, Ohio for the USA Diving Winter Championships. At the midseason meet, Weil took home the win on three-meter and Bettridge followed in second. Bettridge also finished second on one-meter.
Daniel Helm and Andrew Suchla will compete for the men. Helm finished second on one-meter, third on three-meter and second on platform at the LSU Diving Invite. Suchla also finished fourth on three-meter, third on platform, and fourth on one-meter at the home invite.
