Notes on the Tigers
LSU is 18-8 overall on the season and 13-4 in the SEC after defeating Missouri and Auburn over the weekend. It was the team’s final two home matches of the season, finishing the year winning its final seven in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers have won at least seven matches at home for the second consecutive year and fourth time in the last five seasons. The 13 conference wins is the most in the last two seasons, and the most since the 2010 team won 16 that season. It’s only the 11th time in program history that an LSU team has won double-digit league games. LSU earned the season sweep of Missouri in a 3-1 win last Friday, the first time the team has done that in program history. The win over Auburn snapped a two-match losing skid in a 3-0 win. All five sweeps LSU has earned has come in conference action. The Tigers hold a 5-1 record in three-set matches on the season. The team is a combined 13-7 in matching going longer than three sets. The Tigers only hit .225 against both teams last weekend, but held the pair to a .096 combined hitting clip. LSU has held three of their last four opponents to below .100 in a match. LSU has held its last six opponents below a .200 clip. The Tigers are hitting five points better in conference play (.243) than they are overall on the season (.238). LSU has earned more kills than their opponents in 13 of the last 14 matches overall, finishing tied with the 14th team in one match. LSU has finished with fewer attacking errors in six of their last seven matches. The team took the first set off of each team, improving to 12-1 when taking the opening salvo. When going up 2-0 in the intermission break as LSU did on the weekend, the squad is a perfect 7-0 on the year. Even when leading 2-1 the Tigers are still tough holding a 10-0 record. LSU is a combined 17-2 when hitting 200 or better in matches this year. The Tigers have earned more digs than their last seven opponents. LSU has out-blocked three of their last five opponents. LSU committed just one service error on Sunday, the lowest amount the team has had in a single match in the season. Briana Holman led the squad with 26 kills and 3.71 kills per set, averaging .365 offensively. Holman also led the team with 1.43 blocks per set with 10 in two matches. Cati Leak finished second with 21, averaging 3.00 kills per set and 3.29 digs per set. Malorie Pardo had 79 assists, averaging 11.29 per set, while averaging 2.00 digs per set and 1.00 blocks per set. Pardo nearly averaged a service ace per set, leading the squad with five. Mimi Eugene set a new career high in digs with 15 on Sunday, as she finished second on the team in the week in digs averaging 4.00 per set. Eugene had two service aces on Sunday, as she has at least two in five of the last eight. Emily Ehrle averaged 1.29 blocks per set, finishing with nine on the week. Haley Smith averaged 6.00 digs per set, leading the team with 42 on the week. Smith had 13 digs in second set alone against Auburn.
