FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior Morgan Schuetz finished in 46th place at the 2014 NCAA South Central Regional Championships held in Fayetteville, Ark. leading the women to a 12th-place team finish, while Junior Travis Pope placed 62nd to help the men place 18th.
The Lady Tigers finished with a total of 330 points racing the 6k course at Agri Park XC course, and the men tallied up a total of 471 points while racing the 10k course. The Arkansas Razorbacks finished first in the 10k and 6k race as the women totaled 29 points and the men totaled 42 points.
Schuetz topped her previous time from the 2013 regional meet by over a minute, crossing the line at 21 minutes and 43.4 seconds. Senior Andria Aguilar finished shortly behind Schuetz setting a personal best with at time of 21:77.8 for 52nd place.
Sophomore Chaiss Matthews came in 78th place clocking 22:31.6, while senior Andrea Maxwell and sophomore Jenna Walker finished seconds apart for 90th and 92nd place.
Pope also set a personal best at the meet clocking 31:33.3, beating last year’s time by over a minute. Senior Philip Dempsey placed 88th with a time of 32:00.5, while senior Philip Primeaux finished 13 seconds behind Dempsey for a top-100 finish.
“The team fought hard,” cross country head coach Khadevis Robinson said. “The women ran well considering most of them ran personal bests. The men had some good performances, and the freshmen ran well in their first 10k.”
The LSU cross country teams wrap up the 2013-14 cross country season, as the women improve from last year’s 17th overall finish at the 2013 regional meet. LSU will be back in action January 9th hosting the LSU Opener Indoor Track Meet at the Carl Maddox Field House.
