Cross Country to Run at NCAA Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two weeks after competing at the SEC Championships, LSU’s men’s and women’s cross country teams return to Fayetteville, Arkansas to race at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Friday at Agri Park XC Course.

The women will begin the action racing the 6k course at 12 p.m. CDT, and the men will follow racing the 10k course at 1 p.m.

The Tigers finished 13th at the SEC Championships, while the Lady Tigers came in 14th place. Senior Philip Primeaux and Morgan Schuetz led the way for the men and women with Primeaux finishing in 36th place in the men’s race and Schuetz finishing in 52nd place in the women’s competition.

Other top finishers for the Lady Tigers at the SEC championships include sophomore Chaiss Matthews and seniors Andrea Maxwell and Andria Aguilar, who placed in the Top 100. Junior Travis Pope and freshman DC Lipani also placed in the Top 100 for the men.

Sophomores Danielle Avery, Elizabeth Dunning, Jenna Walker and freshman Rebecca Walker will compete with Schuetz, Matthews, Maxwell and Aguilar at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships this weekend.

Joining Primeuax, Pope and Lipani at the regional meet will be senior Philip Dempsey, Bryan Mutell, sophomore Joseph St. Cyr and freshmen Bryan Stamey and Daniel Tanner.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will race against teams from eight conferences including the American, Big 12, Conference USA, Southeastern, Southland, Southwestern Athletic, Sun Belt and Western Athletic conferences.

The top two teams and the top four individuals not among the top two teams will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships at Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers are looking to improve upon a pair of 17th-place team finishes from the 2013 NCAA South Central Regional held at Cottonwood Creek Golf Club in Waco, Texas.
