BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team competed in both the Jack Kramer Invitational in Roling Hills Estates, California and the Roberta Allison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Friday and had several players advance and score wins.
In California, two Lady Tigers qualified for the semifinals as sophomores Abby Owens and Joana Vale Costa won two matches on Friday to secure their place in the semifinals.
“Really happy to see Abby and Joana move into the semis. Abby saved four match points in her first match of the day and then came back from 5-2 down in her second match,” said head coach Julia Sell. “Joana was pretty flawless all day. This team is doing such an incredible job of improving each day and adding dimension to their games.”
In Alabama, senior Noel Scott and freshman Amanda Atannason competed but Atannasonsuffered an injury in her singles match. Scott went on to score two singles victories for the Lady Tigers and will continue competition tomorrow.
“Unfortunately for Amanda, she tweaked her knee and was unable to compete today,” said assistant coach Tristan Venables. “Noel returned well in her first match and hit some great passing shots but didn’t control enough points. In her second match, she changed gears and stuck to an effective game plan.”
