BATON ROUGE – After the women’s first-place and the men’s third-place finishes at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede, the LSU cross country teams are set to compete in the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Tigers will begin the meet at 9:45 a.m. CDT, and the women will follow behind at 10:15 a.m., as the men will race the 8k course and the women will race the 5k course at Agri Park Cross Country Course.
Seniors Andria Aguilar and Philip Primeaux continue to lead their teams this season after Aguilar placed first at the Cowboy Stampede and Primeaux finished second overall. With the help of junior Morgan Schuetz‘s third-place finish at the Cowboy Stampede, the Lady Tigers took home their second win this season, while the men posted a solid third-place finish.
Competing at the Chile Pepper Festival with Aquilar and Schuetz are sophomore Chaiss Matthews and freshman Andrea Maxwell, who both placed in the top-10 at the Cowboy Stampede, as well as sophomores Danielle Avery, Elizabeth Dunning, Jenna Walker and Ashley Welborn and freshman Rebecca Little.
For the men, nine Tigers will make the trip to compete with Primeaux, including seniors Philip Dempsey and Bryan Mutell, junior Travis Pope, sophomore Blair Henderson and freshmen Joseph St. Cyr, Bryan Stamey, Daniel Tanner, Jack Wilkes and the latest SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week DC Lipani.
With the men’s and women’s early success this season, the LSU cross country teams look to improve from last year’s 11th-place and ninth-place finishes at the Chile Pepper Festival.
After competing in Fayetteville, the Tigers and Lady Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Oct. 17 to compete in the Crimson Classic.
