AUBURN, Ala. – The LSU Men’s Tennis team continued their winning ways in Auburn at the ITA Regional tournament on Saturday as the doubles team of junior Tam Trinh and sophomore Eric Perez qualified for the semifinals.
The duo defeated the Mississippi State team of junior Mate Cutura and senior Tassilo Schmid by a score of 8-5 in the quarterfinals to secure their semifinal spot. Sophomore Jordan Daigle and junior Boris Arias fell just short of joining Trinh and Perez in the semifnals with a tough, 8-7(10) loss to the Mississippi State team of sophomores Florian Lakat and Julian Cash.
Freshman Simon Freund continued to build on his strong start to the season and qualified for the quarterfinal round of the consolation singles bracket. Freund’s path to the semifinal included a match against fellow Tiger junior Harrison Kennedy.
Head coach Jeff Brown was pleased with his team’s effort and happy to see steady improvement as the Tigers navigate their fall schedule.
“We did well in doubles with Tam and Eric moving into the semis and Jordan and Boris got to the quarterfinals,” Brown said. “Simon and Harrison picked up some wins (in consolation) as well. Overall we have had solid tournament and improved from the last event we played.”
Freund will get the action started for the Tigers in consolation singles play on Sunday at 9:00 AM and Trinh and Perez play their semifinal match at 1:00 PM.
