BATON ROUGE – Fresh off of its team and individual title sweep at the LSU Cross Country Invitational a week ago, the LSU cross country teams are traveling to Lake Charles to race in the McNeese State’s Cowboy Stampede on Saturday at Ward 3 Recreation Complex.
The Lady Tigers will begin the meet at 8:45 a.m. CDT, and the men will start shortly behind at 9:15 a.m. as the women will run a 5k course and the men will run a four-mile course.
Four groups will be participating at the Cowboy Stampede, college, high school, middle school and elementary. The high school, middle school and elementary races will take place after the collegiate races starting at 9:50 a.m. Admission will be $3 per spectator.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers are on a strong start this season after both teams finished first at the LSU Invitational and took home top-5 finishes at the Rice Invitational.
Senior Philip Primeaux has led the Tigers with a first-place finish at the LSU Invitational and placing seventh at the Rice Invitational. Junior Morgan Schuetz led the Lady Tigers last week finishing first in the LSU Invitational, and senior Aguilar has been a consistent runner for the Lady Tigers with two top-10 finishes for the team.
Racing with Schuetz and Aguilar will be senior Andrea Maxwell, Danielle Avery, Elizabeth Dunning, Chaiss Matthews, Jenna Walker, and Ashley Welborn, and freshmen Hannah Deworth, and Rebecca Little.
Seniors Bryan Mutell and Philip Dempsey, junior Travis Pope, and freshmen DC Lipani, Joe St. Cyr, Bryan Stamey, Daniel Tanner, Jack WIlkes and will join Primeaux to race for the Tigers.
After competing in the Cowboy Stampede, LSU will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to race in the Chile Pepper Festival. The women will begin at 9:45 a.m. CDT, and the men will follow at 10:15 a.m.
