BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team opened their season in doubles and singles play on Friday at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. The Lady Tigers split their doubles matchup against Georgia State and took four of seven singles matches against Georgia Tech.
In doubles action, the team of sophomore Abby Owens and junior Skylar Kuykendall outlasted junior Linn Timmermann and freshman Veronika Golanova of Georgia State by a score of 6-2. LSU’s second doubles victory of the day came from junior Ella Taylor and freshman Amanda Atanasson who defeated freshman Kristin Rehse and senior Chaimaa Roudami 6-3.
The Lady Tigers squared off against Georgia Tech in singles action where they scored four victories. Kuykendall recovered from a first set loss to defeat freshman Alexis Prokopuik 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Noel Scott kept the winning ways going with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over freshman Paige Hourigan. The other two victories came from sophomore Skylar Holloway (6-2, 6-7) and freshman Madara Straume (6-1, 1-0, ret.).
The Lady Tigers continue tournament play tomorrow Saturday, Sept. 20 at 9:00 a.m.
